Pete Rutski has over 30 years experience in the rail transportation industry specializing in capital project development, business planning and marketing. He served as a senior marketing and business planning executive at CSX Intermodal where he prepared long range business plans, implemented marketing programs and developed several intermodal terminals. In his consulting work, Mr. Rutski applies his transportation experience specializing in intermodal and freight related projects. He also has comprehensive experience in the public sector having worked on public-private development projects in the states of Florida, Michigan and Indiana. Selected highlights of his experience include:

  • Intermodal Strategic Investment Plan: Project leader supporting the development of CSX Intermodal’s long range strategic investment plan for terminal and clearance projects. This plan provided business justification and strategic drivers for major capital projects which became the forerunners to CSX’s National Gateway Initiative.
  • Intermodal Terminal Development: Developed the CSX Intermodal terminal in Fairburn, GA, serving the Atlanta market. This required an Atlanta market assessment, site location study and capital justification. Intermodal terminal development projects were also managed in Chicago, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Jacksonville and Detroit.
  • JAXPORT Container Impact Study:  Working with engineering firm Reynolds Smith & Hills, Mr. Rutski supported a project to determine the impact of container growth on the highway and rail infrastructure of the Port of Jacksonville, FL. He led the development of a long range container forecast and the preparation of highway and rail routing projections. Mr. Rutski also developed a feasibility study for a near dock rail intermodal terminal.
  • Southwest Indiana Logistics Park Feasibility: Working with the Tioga Group, a study was conducted for the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana to evaluate the feasibility of an industrial park with a co-located intermodal terminal. The study identified the logistics advantages of Southwest Indiana to attract potential developers. Mr. Rutski worked with serving rail carrier CSX to develop terms for relocation of its Evansville intermodal terminal to a site at the planned development.
  • South Florida Intermodal Terminal: Conducted a study to evaluate the operational and commercial feasibility of an intermodal terminal in western Palm Beach County. This study, for a major South Florida landowner, supported the planned development of an industrial park and co-located intermodal terminal.
  • Rail Market and Financial Feasibility Study: Conducted a market assessment for the Rail Authority of East Mississippi to identify the primary markets that could support the development of a new 56 mile rail line. Sustainable biofuel from wood pellets was identified as the key commodity market for the proposed line. A second phase of the study evaluated the export wood pellet logistics and estimated volume and revenue for the new line to provide inputs to the financial feasibility analysis.

Mr. Rutski received a BS degree in engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and an MBA degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
